Latest Toyota lexus Review

http://dailycar.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/trezia0lo2.jpg
When we think about Toyota-Subaru collaboration, the first thing that comes to mind is the highly anticipated rear-wheel-drive “Toyobaru” project. But while the FT-86 and its Subie sibling are first in our thoughts, it wasn’t number one to market.

Automotive News reports that Subaru is set to unveil the Trezia hatchback in March at the Geneva Auto Show. The roomy five-door, which closely mirrors the Honda Fit in most every measurement, will be a near spot-on match of the Toyota Verso it’s based on, but with an Impreza-style grille slapped on the front clip and some Subaru badging sprinkled throughought. Both the Toyota Verso (named Ractis for JDM consumption) and Subaru Trezia are being sold in Japan now, and both vehicles are destined for Euro showrooms this spring.
http://dailycar.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/trezia2hi.jpg
In Japan, the Trezia is powered by a choice of 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter inline-four cylinder gasoline engines mated to a CVT, but in Europe the 1.5 will be replaced with a 1.4-liter diesel. In Japan, the Trezia can be had with all-wheel-drive provided car buyers check off the box for the more powerful engine, which will likely be the turbodiesel in Europe.
With its roomy interior and diminutive footprint, the Trezia will likely do well overseas. But will we ever see Subaru’s Fit-fighter in North America? With gas prices once again on the rise, it might not be a bad idea.

New Toyota Prado 2011 Review

Paul Gover road tests and reviews the new Toyota Prado at its Australian launch

The middle child of the Toyota SUV family is new again.  The Prado has had a complete workover in almost every area, from the chassis and body up through the V6 petrol engine and the camera protection systems.
It's now more luxurious than ever for suburban work and tougher and more flexible for off-road use. As you would expect with a seven-year gap between model changes.
Toyota Australia claims everything from improved fuel economy to better value and improved refinement, but it all comes at a cost.  The new Prado has put on at least 150 kilograms from the previous model and the starting price is up by more than $4000 to $55,990. In fact, only two of 14 Prado models now hit below the Luxury Car Tax threshold and the top-line seven-seater Kakadu turbodiesel auto costs a whopping $88,990.  But more than 1500 people have placed orders and Toyota is expecting to have trouble satisfying early demand.

The fourth-generation Prado is longer, wider but lower than its predecessor and, for the first time, there is a three-door model. But it's not a stripped-out bush-basher, coming with the seven airbags, ESP stability control, airconditioning, cruise control, smart-start system, alloy wheels, USB input and Bluetooth, and power steering that is standard on all models.

"We wanted comfort and peace of mind, anytime and anywhere," says Prado's chief engineer, Makoto Arimoto, speaking at the Australian press preview in Orange over the weekend.  The range runs from the basic GX through GXL and VX to Kakadu, which even gets a standard sunroof and leather trim.
The Prado is available as either a five or seven-seater and Toyota has tweaked the cabin with a sliding second-row seat in the five-door models. There is also an electrically-operated third-row system in the luxury cars.

Like every new model from Toyota there are hundreds of changes and updates in the suspension and engines and electronics and entertainment systems, and it's all important stuff.   But the styling is . . . questionable. The basic body is basically bland and the final finishing, particularly the grille, is overpowering.  So it's a good thing that around 50 per cent of Prado buyers add a bullbar.
Driving
The new Prado is everything you expect, and more. It is just plain phenomenal in the bush, where the latest range of driver aids - but particularly the 'Crawl' system and driver-selectable multi-terrain package - mean it can practically drive itself. You only have to steer as it walks up and down the toughest terrain.  There are also cameras to check obstacles anywhere around the Prado, provided you pay enough to get the right package, and the transmission has the low-range setting and differential locks you need for serious stuff.

Pay enough and you can also have height-adjustable suspension, an extra diff lock and the multi-terrain deal which means you choose the sort of conditions - from sand through to rocks - and let the electronic brains decide the best settings for fuss-free travel.  Get back on the bitumen and the suspension feels more plush, there is more 'stuff' to enjoy, and the cabin is a little more roomy and significantly more practical.

The latest V6 has definitely got more go that you can feel for more of the time, even if less than 20 per cent of Prado buyers go for petrol power. But the turbodiesel does not cope as well with the extra weight in the new car and overtaking performance is fairly ordinary, with relatively leisurely acceleration from standstill.
So the biggest question on the new Prado is the price. More than $55,000 for a starter car is a lot of cash for any SUV buyer, and the top-end stickers are right in the luxury car class. It's a good thing, but is it that good?

Latest 2010 Toyota Prado GXL V6 Manual Road Test Review

ALTHOUGH IT'S THE BABY brother to the 200-Series Landcruiser, there’s no escaping the fact that the new Prado feels massive.
Behind the wheel, the overwhelming sensation is one of size. Its footprint isn’t especially huge, but the Prado’s corners feel distant from the driver’s seat – no surprise, considering the new model is longer and wider than the one it replaces.
You sit high up in the Prado, and the large windscreen and side glass give a commanding view of what’s around you.
Still, smaller cars can disappear when next to the Prado, and the silhouette of the door-mounted spare obscures much of the driver’s rearward vision. A good thing then that a reversing camera is standard on all models bar the GX.

Outward visibility may not be great for suburban school runs, but the interior is spacious, comfortable and well laid-out.
The tall centre stack places the climate-control buttons a hand-span away from the steering wheel, the gear shifter is comfortably placed and the tilt/reach adjustable steering wheel is a plus. The front seats are comfortable, although the beige velour upholstery may not be to everyone’s taste.
The second row seats slide on their own set of rails and feature adjustable backrest tilt, but the centre position is narrow and best suited to smaller children. Legroom is at least generous.
The third-row seats are best reserved for small adults and children. Better yet, keep them stowed away. When raised the third row seats dramatically cut luggage room, leaving a space comparable to that offered by a small hatchback.

The Drive

Once underway, the Prado gives the impression that it's out of its element on suburban tarmac.
Its truck-like steering ratio, heavy and notchy gear lever, slow throttle mapping and soft suspension suggest that the Prado is better suited to off-road excursions than asphalt, and the consensus is that yes, it is.
The five-link coil-sprung live rear axle is great for wheel articulation on rough tracks, but not as skilled at dispatching lumpy tarmac at speed. The Prado’s soft damping produces a comfortable ride over rocky paths, but produces a wallowy, roll-happy ride on urban roads.

And so it goes on: the agricultural gearshift is a result of the manual transmission’s toughness, the throttle mapping is there to improve off-road driveability and the slow, heavily assisted steering rack exists for much the same reason.
The Prado’s suite of electronic traction aids helps it venture even further from the beaten track, and the Landcruiser’s smaller sibling is by no means less capable in the bush. Indeed, its smaller size makes it easier to thread between obstacles.
On the road, though, is where most privately-bought Prados spend their time, and it is in this environment that it’s not so impressive.
The 4.0 litre 1GR-FE petrol V6 is a tractable engine, but it doesn’t like to be pushed hard and its noisy belt-driven fan produces a Hoover-like howl at mid to high rpms.

With 202kW and 381Nm on tap, the V6 is not exactly wanting for power or torque. However, having to lug the Prado’s substantial 2220kg kerb weight blunts its performance, and progress is never swift.
The six-speed manual gearbox that was fitted to our tester didn’t like to be hurried through gears either, and it took a while to learn how to change gears without crunching the lever through the gate.
The five-speed automatic would be a better proposition for around-town driving, and perversely it’s also the transmission that yields better fuel economy. Toyota claims the petrol automatic consumes 11.5 l/100km on the combined cycle, while 13.0 l/100km is claimed for the manual-equipped GXL petrol.
Our testing saw an average of 13.8 l/100km over an even mix of urban and highway driving, showing that the manual-equipped petrol Prado is a thirsty animal indeed. In the face of such numbers, the diesel would be a wiser choice.

New 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Review

2010 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
Toyota's revered Land Cruiser brand of off-road vehicles has been religiously serving for over five decades across various markets. What makes the Land Cruiser series so successful the world over are its supremely engineered mechanicals and its ability to conquer harsh terrain with conviction and of course, Toyota's legendary reliability.

Performance
Toyota's all-new D-4D 3.0 litre Common Rail Direct Injection turbocharged diesel motor that is currently serving the Fortuner. Albeit, under the hood of Land Cruiser Prado the diesel power plant is differently tuned and configured to suit the Prado's bigger dimensions and a 2400kg kerb weight. The motor pumps out 173PS of power and 410Nm of torque, which is adequate for cruising around the city and occasional highway bouts but the engine feels sluggish and strained to haul this behemoth with urgency. The engine is also slightly noisier than we would like.

Exterior
The new Prado gets a slight over haul. The chassis is slightly wider than the outgoing model and has a lower right height to reduce the center of gravity and manage roll over risk that are notorious to the Prado. The head lamps have changed slightly and the tail lights from undergone complete change.

Interior
The global auto industry is in the race to reduce costs and make cars more affordable. The Prado is no different. The interior is very conservative but high tech. Buttons and dials are all over the place which control various aspects of the audio system, electronic 4WD, and climate control. However, the materials just don't match up to this cars price. Toyota has used cheap and flimsy looking plastic that makes it car far from luxury. We also expected that a car this expensive came with leather seats standards, but this isn’t happening with the Prado

Safety and Reliability
The Prado has always been considered as a very safe car. The rigid chassis and standard side curtain and passenger side airbags makes this a very safe car to drive in.

Toyota's have always been known for making cars very reliable, and the Prado is no different. This car can probably outlive you.

Bottom Line
While we think the Prado is a very capable SUV and equally capable off the road, it just does not live up to its heritage. In the past, the Land Cruiser range have always been the flagship of Toyota cars, but the combination of low quality materials, flimsy interiors and simply too bland interiors makes this car a no buy. Furthermore, the car at showroom price retails for almost 1.3 cores, which makes this car even more difficult to justify. Those looking at buying this car should compare the advantages and disadvantages with its main competitors, Mitsubishi Pajero, Nissan Patrol, Volkswagen Tourag.

Price:1.2 - 1.3 Crores

Toyota Auris Hybrid pricing announced (UK)

The all-new Toyota Auris Hybrid will start from £18,950 for the entry-level T4 89g spec, rising to £20,700 for the flagship T-Spirit. The Auris Hybrid is powered by the same 1.8 litre VVT-i petrol engine found in the Prius, and an electric motor giving combined output of 134bhp.

The car will be available in 3 well-specified trim-levels; T4 89g, T4 & T-Spirit.

Entry-level T4 89g features Climate control, CD/MP3 player with USB, x4 electric windows, electrically adjustable/heated door mirrors, 7 airbags, 15" alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, stability and traction control w/ hill-start assist. This model has CO2 emissions of 89g/km with combined fuel economy of 74.3mpg, which translates to over 700 miles on one tank.

Mid-spec T4 adds 'T4 89g' standard equipment plus 17" alloy wheels for £19,200.

Range-topping T-Spirit comes with 17" alloy wheels, leather & Alcantara seats, cruise control w/ speed limiter, Bluetooth w/ steering wheel audio controls, automatic headlights and wipers, smart entry and start and auto-dimming rearview mirror w/ rear camera display. Due to the increase of the alloy wheels, the T4 & T-Spirit models emit 93g/km with overall economy of 70.6mpg.

At £18,950, the Auris Hybrid is not a cheap way into to hybrid motoring. It is only £555 less than the company's entry-level Prius T3 and more than £2,365 more than the entry-level Honda Insight.

Toyota says that Auris Hybrid is close in price to similarly specced rival cars fitted with 2.0 litre diesel engines and says that Auris Hybrid customers and Prius Hybrid customers come from two distinctive groups.

'Prius customers want to make a statement,' said a Toyota spokesman. 'They tend to be style-led early adopters. Auris Hybrid customers will be interested in the mpg and they may also simply prefer a smaller car.

Toyota Auris will be built in the UK

Toyota has announced that the all-new Toyota Auris will be built in the UK at its vehicle manufacturing plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire.

Production of the Auris, the new C-Segment hatchback for Toyota, will begin in the new year and will go on sale to customers across Europe from Spring 2007. UK sales will begin from 1st February, 2007.

Designed and built in Europe, Auris demonstrates Toyota’s commitment to its European production operations. The new hatchback will be built alongside the Avensis at Toyota Manufacturing UK and also alongside the Corolla Verso at Toyota’s plant in Adapazari, Turkey.

The European production locations were confirmed today as Auris made its debut at the Bologna Motor Show.

Designed at Toyota’s European Design Development centre, ED2, in the south of France, Auris will join the highly successful Toyota Yaris and Avensis in helping Toyota to achieve its revised European sales target of 1.2 million units per year by 2008.

Hein Van Gerwen, Managing Director, Toyota Manufacturing UK said: “Auris represents a major step forward for the Toyota brand in Europe and is a crucial vehicle in the competitive C-segment.

“The award of this new model is further recognition of the skill and commitment of all our employees. We will now ensure that every Auris customer receives a superior quality vehicle they can be truly proud to own.”

The Rt. Hon Alistair Darling, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, welcomed the announcement. He said: "This commitment is excellent news for the workforce and another show of confidence in the British car industry. It shows that the UK is a good place to invest and to manufacture."

Auris embodies the way forward for Toyota in Europe.

Breaking the mould of current C-segment hatchback design, it has an original and distinctive shape that is ‘short and tall’. Short because it maintains an overall length typical to this segment; tall to maximise interior space and passenger comfort.

Auris sets a new standard for interior design: stylish, spacious and sophisticated. The ‘inside-out’ approach to the interior design means the car has been created around the driver to maximise interior space. The styling with unique design elements, such as the bridged centre console, creates a bold and distinctive environment.

The four grade model line-up will appeal to a broad spectrum of customers. From its launch, Auris will offer plenty of choice: three-door or five-door models with a range of engine and transmission options.
